The drawing is monogrammed at the centre right and measures 31 x 18 cm (framed size 41 x 30 cm). Two small holes in the paper are documented on the photos.

Rousselin is depicted in the foreground of "Le Déjeuner dans l'Atelier", one of the masterpieces of Édouard Manet. During the summer of 1868, Manet spent six weeks in Boulogne-sur-Mer , for the first sketches of this emblematic work which he later completed in Paris. In the picture, Manet recreates the moment of a simple lunch in his family apartment in Boulogne-sur-Mer with his son, Léon Koelin and Auguste Rousselin, whom he met in the studio of Thomas Couture.
Rousselin's works figure in the museums of Grenoble and Pau.
