Interesting and decorative oil on canvas laid down on board still life, very much in the impressionist manner. The still life shows a bowl of fruit with copper kettle, glass and pewter tin, on a bright cloth, this assemblage of contrasting textures and colours was designed to test the artist’s abilities, and the whole works very well. The technique is free and bold with thick impasto paint. The work is signed but I am unable to read the signature sadly. The painting is mounted in a period gilt frame with copper tones that works very well with the painting. The painting has been professionally cleaned and the frame has had some minor repair. The whole is ready to hang and gives a great impressionistic look. C.1900.
