Cattle in a highland landscape by listed artist, Raymond Dearn. (1858-1925), oil on canvas, signed lower right and titled verso. Circa 1900.

A sad story of an artist, but his talents not in doubt. Raymonds mother died when he was a baby. He moved to the Isle of Man with his family in the late 1890's, living in Sulby. Many of is works are landscapes of Sulby, and rare to find one featuring highland cattle, and beautifully executed with fine detail.

He was known to have gone from door to door trying to sell his paintings or earn a private commission. Plagued by ill health, he died penniless at the 'Home for the Poor' in Braddan in 1925, aged 67.
