Description

A little gem very much in the style of Corot is this Italian Mountain Town, an oil on panel measuring 18 x 26 cm (measured without the frame).

This painting by Henry Trier is unsigned, but it was acquired with a number of others which were signed, and which were by the same hand, and on the same kind of panel.

It is likely that Trier took a series of these small panels with him on his travels, to sketch in plein air. The result were beautiful, fresh impressions of Southern landscapes such as this one.

Born in London, Trier traveled in the Mediterranean countries, making long stays in Spain. He showed his work for the first time in 1901 at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, being named that same year to membership in the Society of British Artists.
