Description

Edouard FER (1887-1959) Olive Branch. Watercolour on paper, 23 x 24 cm (measured without the frame or mat)

Fer studied at the schools of Beaux-Arts and the Arts Décoratifs in Paris and started to exhibit at the Salon d’Automne at the age of twenty-two. He was a friend of Maximilien Luce, Valtat and especially Signac. His style of pointillism was free rather than doctrinal in tone, and highly-keyed in terms of colour.

This particular work is elegant, fresh and keenly observed, certainly a study from nature.
