Description

Appealing and interesting character study of a young woman, 1949, by Andrée Séailles (1891-1983)

An oil on canvas, the painting is signed and dated at the lower right. It measures 39 x 34 cm, plus a simple narrow oak frame.

The artist, Andrée Séailles was the daughter of writer Gabriel Séailles and painter Octavie Séailles. The family were close friends of artist Eugène Carrière - a portrait of Andrée can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in Strasbourg.

Andrée studied under Paul Baudoin, later exhibited in the Salons of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts, and the Indépendants.
