One of the most important art critics of his time, André Salmon writes about Suzanne Bernouard and the (French) Arts and Crafts movement in his book “Yound French Painting in 1912: “One could not neglect either Mademoiselles Albertine or Suzanne Bernouard, whose art is minor yet occupies a place of importance (…) They paint and embroider. It is not decorative art that lead them to painting.
They have imagined fabulous and live roses that shimmer on the cushions of drawing rooms where the most modern poems are recited and where the boldest melodies resound. One song by Ravel makes their petals shake ….”
