At the Cobblers: Biedermeier Era 1850s Continental Genreantique Oil Painting

Description

A charming and very fine oil on canvas painting from the 1850s, probably of German or Austrian origin. I think the great quality of the artwork, its gracefulness, realism and gentle humour, will speak for itself.

The painting is signed at the lower left, but I have not been able to identify the artist, or even dechipher the signature (Gottmann, Ottmans?).

The artwork was restored, relined and mounted on a new stretcher sometime ago. The strecher is a someone curious construction, and I feel the painting was slightly over cleaned. There are a few very minor hairline scratches but overall, the painting presents well. It is however in"antique" condition.

The painting alone measures 36 x 49 cm. With a 19th century gilded frame, the overall size is 61 x 48 cm.
