This is a striking and poigniant oil on board by an anonymous artist active inthe late 19th century. It shows carpenters at work in a French monument or building, possibly with the Dome of the Panthéon in the background. This is Emile Zola's Paris of toil - a subject that notably Maximilien Luce often represented in a similar fashion.

It is presented in a simple narrow old gilded frame that may well be original to the painting.
