"Durham by Moonlight" Watercolour Painting by Alfred Robert Tucker

Description

This atmospheric watercolour painting of Durham is painted by Alfred Robert Tucker and is dated 1889. It is signed Alfred Maile, a pseudonym the artist used as he was from a large family of painters with the same surname. Tucker was born in the Lake District, was educated at Oxford and was a curate in Bristol in 1882. He became a curate in Durham from 1885 to 1890 after which he was Bishop of Uganda up to 1911, when he was appointed a Canon of Durham. The picture is in a good original gilt frame giving an overall size of 27"x 34".
