Victorian Coastal Scene Oil Painting

A charming small oil on canvas scene of figures on the beach mending nets in a costal landscape setting. The landscape with the ruin on the hill is reminiscent of the north of England, possibly Scarborough. The painting is quite fine, and typical of the romantic style of the mid Victorian period, though this work is not signed. The painting is in the original fine quality gilt frame. The painting has been cleaned professionally and the frame has had some minor restoration. The whole has a great, country house look and is ready to hang. C.1850.
