A fine oil on canvas of Paris. The scene shows a couple walking down the side of the Seine in the late Autumn sunset. The work is of an impressive, capable, impressionist style, with thick impasto paint. The painting has been signed ''S.Funnel'' an artist I have been unable to identify and it is most likely that the work is by a Parisian artist who painted and sold to visitors rather than traditionally exhibiting. The painting retains the original gilt, swept frame which has a great worn, rubbed look to the gilding. The painting and frame are in excellent condition. C.1940.
