Augustus Jules Bouvier 1827-1881.Son of the Paris-born artist Jules Bouvier(1800-1867) who moved with his family to London in 1818.Bouvier was a student at the Royal Academy.He later went on to complete his studies in France and Italy.In 1852 he exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy, and continued to exhibit there over the years.He specialised in figure paintings of elegantly dressed women and also painted genre scenes.He was one of the first artists to have exhibited at the British Institution.From 1865 onwards he was a member of the New Watercolour Society.Signed watercolour ‘Hunt the Slipper’ from ‘The Vicar of the Wakefield’ dated 1856,image size58x75 cms, framed size 80x98 cms; original gilt frame.A fine example of the artist’s work.
