Still Life Oil Painting of Peacock Feathers

A fine quality oil on canvas still life with Aesthetic movement and Art Nouveau overtones. The painting shows a very carefully set group of vase with feathers, fan and a drape of gold fabric. The mixture of items and textures are often used to test artist's in examination pieces and this may well by the case with this work. The work is signed on the reverse: 'M.V.Gilbert. 1917' although I can find no record of the artist it may be because of the great war or that they were a female artist and married and changed their name or simply did not exhibit and were therefore not recorded. The work is mounted in a fine quality period gilt frame which is in excellent untouched condition. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a small hole repaired. The items represented are often associated with the Aesthetic and Art Nouveau movements and the painting gives a great look for those periods.
