A large and fine quality Victorian oil painting by Charles W. Oswald. The painting shows a farmer getting his horses ready for a days work. Charles W. Oswald flourished between 1890-1899 he specialised in landscapes with animals mainly highland cattle and horses and seems to have been a purely commercial artist though he did exhibit in Liverpool. The painting has been professionally cleaned and had a small amount of restoration to a whole in the sky. The work is mounted in the original fine gilt frame which is in very good condition with some minor restoration. The whole work is of large size and gives a great decorative impact and has a great charm. C.1890.
