Fine Dutch Oil Painting of Chickens

A fine oil on mahogany panel depicting chickens in a barn. The painting is Dutch, the style of the work and the fact it is painted on a very good quality mahogany panel are typical of Dutch work of the Nineteenth century. The painting is technically very adept in many ways I particularly like how they have used the base colour of the board showing through as a colour in the painting, the walls in particular show this and here in contrast paint has been piled on to give the texture of the wall in three dimensions. Parts of the painting are done in great detail while others are almost sketched in this gives a feeling of depth, and focus to various areas of the painting, for example some chickens are more focused, fully drawn than others this gives focus and depth in the work and leads the eye around the painting. The shelf of items in the background which includes a clay pipe is a little work of art in it's own right. The painting must have been painted by a great artist but sadly there is no sign of a signature. The work is framed in a fine early nineteenth century gilt frame, which has had some repair and has a great faded country house quality. The painting has been professionally cleaned and the whole is ready to hang. C.1880.
