"THROUGH THE FOREST": a charming and quite large OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS by Edward Holmes RBA.

It depicts a young lad leading a girl (his sister?) on a donkey, as they emerge along a track from the edge of a forest, preceded by their pet dog. Beautifully composed and very finely painted, this good oil painting measures: 34 ins by 29ins (86 x 74cms) including the frame. Signed and dated: 1881.

*** Edward Holmes RBA (1841-1891) was a fine landscape painter who exhibited this particular painting at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1883 No. 314.
