'The Midnight Hour' Oil Painting by Clarence Roe

A fine oil on canvas oil painting entitled 'The Midnight Hour' by highly regarded artist Clarence Henry Roe. The painting shows a large stag on the snowy hillside in the dark. The quality of the work is superb, the detail and the ability to show the darkness and the moonlight. Clarence Henry Roe (1850-1909) was a prolific and highly regarded artist in his time, from an artistic family, he exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, mainly highland landscapes in oil. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work is mounted in a period gilt frame which has had some minor restoration. The painting is a great example of Victorian animal painting and highly atmospheric and decorative. C.1880.
