Large Victorian Landscape Oil Painting

A large and very decorative oil on canvas landscape painting. The painting which unusually is painted portrait rather than the traditional landscape on the canvas, shows a view to a village with smoke coming from the houses and a great windmill. There is a lot of detail in the painting and layering of composition with a detailed village in the background drawing the eye up through a corn field, I also particularly like the ivy covered tree. The paintingis only signed in monogram 'E.M.S.' which I have been unable to identify, it is dated 1882. The painting is mounted in a period gilt frame. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a small hole restored, it does have some craqueleure. The frame is in untouched condition with the original gilt finish and as one would expect with a frame of this size it does have the odd scratch none of which are too distracting. The painting is very large and makes a great decorative impact, while at the same time it is not too grand or overbearing.
