A beautiful study in watercolour of a young woman by highly regarded nineteenth century artist Benjamin Richard Green 1808-1876. Benjamin Richard Green was the son of the portrait painter James Green, and he studied at the RA schools, his work is mostly in watercolour and he was elected a member of the institute of watercolour painters in 1834. Green exhibited widely including the RA from 1837-58 and a remarkable 243 works at the new watercolour society, he was also teacher and lecturer. The work shows a beautiful girl thoughtfully looking off into the distance while playing with her scarf in her hand. The work is watercolour heightened with body colour and there is a signature, date and inscription which are slightly obscured by the slip, but the date can be seen and is 1843. The work is in the original gilt frame and slip and retains the ''Agnews'' retail label on the reverse.
