Still Life Oil Painting by Evelyn Clutton-brock

A fine oil on canvas laid to board still life, very much in the Bloomsbury style by Evelyn Clutton-Brock (1876-1964). The painting shows an assemblage of items such as fruit, a glass and a large figure of cupid, it all has a feastive feel about it with foliage that looks to be holly. The painting is bright with a thick impasto use of paint and a slightly impressionist feel. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work is mounted in the original frame which is earlier in date but appears to have been reused and decorated by the artist for the painting. Evelyn Clutton-Brock was a member of the aristocracy and lived at Chastleton House in Oxfordshire which as part of the National Trust still retains a large collection of her work, a very talented artist who did not appear to exhibited. The painting is in excellent condition and ready to hang. C.1920.
