Arthur Netherwood was born in Huddersfield, the son of a woollen manufacturer.

Lived in Llandudno, North Wales from 1893 and Conway from 1910, where he was Mayor for a time. He was Vice-President of the Society of Yorkshire Artists and member of the Royal Cambrian Academy from 1906. He exhibited widely at The Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy and Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
