A superb dog portrait oil painting of a Clumber Spaniel by highly regarded animal painter Monica F Gray, Exhibited 1898-1919. Monica F Gray is listed as a landscape artist but seems to have specialised in dog painting and worked for some of the most famous kennels of period, she exhibited at the Royal Academy and the society of women artists. The portrait shows the dog, head and shoulders, looking very stately and the detail and quality of the work is superb. The work is signed bottom left but not dated. The painting has been professionally cleaned and lightly restored and wax lined. The work is mounted in a large good quality period gilt frame, this has had some light restoration. The whole is a great example of animal painting by a highly regarded artist in the field.
