Summer Landscape John Macwhirter Oil Painting

A fine example of Victorian landscape painting by John MacWhirter RA (1839-1911). The painting shows a summer scene of harvesting in glorious weather, with blue skies and wheat sheaves stacked to the fore. The painting is signed 'Mac.W.' for the artist John MacWhirter a highly regarded landscape painter of the Victorian period. MacWhirter was a full member of the Royal Academy where he exhibited a staggering 126 works, he also exhibited at all the other major galleries of the time and his work is in the Tate. The painting has been later mounted in a period Victorian gilt frame which has been cut down to fit and had some repair. The work has been professionally cleaned and a couple of small holes repaired. The whole has a great feel of summer and warmth and a wonderful period look. C.1890.
