Painting late 17th early 18th century
The size of the painting is 74 x 61 cm,(29 x 24 inches ) whilst overall size is 91.5 79 x cm (36 x 31 inches)
Housed in an 18th century carved and gilded frame.
Provenance: By descent in the family to the 2nd Marquess of Bath (1765-1837) of Longleat;
Thynne Heirlooms from Haynes Park, 1 May 1911, lot 13 (16 guineas to Cohen).
The sitter George Granville, 1st Baron Lansdowne PC (9 March 1666 – 29 January 1735) was an English poet, playwright, and politician who served as a Privy Counsellor from 1712.Was associated with the Jacobite cause and was the son of Bernard Granville,
himself the son of Sir Bevil Grenville of Cornwall, an illustrious Royalist commander in the Civil War.
The painting and frame are in very good condition ready to hang.
