Fine Pair of Oil Paintings by R.h.jennings

A charming pair of oil paintings of young children by the sea probably the children of fishermen. The pair show a young boy fisherman with his baskets to mend the nets and a girl with her basket to collect shellfish. The pair are in excellent condition and both signed and dated by the artist R.H.Jennings 1861. The artist seems to have worked only commercially and not exhibited although he obviously had a talent. Unusually the one work is on artist's board the other on canvas stretched over wood, as a commercial artist he most likely to have used what he had. The pair retain the orginal gilt frames which are just beautiful. The whole are in excellent ready to hang condition.
