Fine Large Pair of Oil Paintings After Wouwerman

A large and very decorative pair of oil paintings after the great Dutch golden age artist Philips Wouwerman. The pair of paintings show two hunting scenes with figures, typical of those by Wouwerman. We see one with a group of nobles with falcons and the other with men mounting horse ready to ride out. The paintings are interesting in that they have obviously always been a pair, as the light and dark in each counterpoint each other. The paintings are in very good condition, they have obviously been lined in the early twentieth century but very well, they have been professionally cleaned. The works are not signed but this is not unusual for this type of painting and from this date. The paintings are mounted in a superb pair of Victorian gilt frames which add an impressive impact to the works, there is a little restoration on them, but it is well done and unobtrusive. The pair make a great impact and have a wonderful great stately home look to them. C.1830.
