Victorian English School Oil Painting Portrait

A good oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman. The work is typical of portraiture of the period and has a certain naivity about it that has a great charm. The man is dressed in his finest and holds in his hand a lit cigar. The painting is mounted in a period gilt frame, probably the original. The painting has been professionally cleaned and had some slight restoration, the frame has had some slight restoration as well. This is a large and decorative work, with a softest about it compared to the more severe portraits of the period, which is very appealing. C.1850.
