19th Century Chinese Watercolour Painting on Pith Insects

Description

This is a beautiful Chinese watercolour painting on pith from the 19th century. The painting is a study of insects in vibrant gouache colours and includes butterflies and other winged insects and also a little crab type creature. They are very finely executed and have great charm. The painting is mounted and set within a very attractive gilded bamboo style frame which sets it off very nicely. It is in great condition save for a couple of small marks to the pith as photographed. The painting itself measures 22.5 cms by 15.5 cms but the frame is 40 cms by 32 cms. We currently have another Chinese watercolour of butterflies listed in the same frame. Please get in touch if you are interested in purchasing both.

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
