Large Impressionist Oil Painting of Venice

A large and highly decorative oil on canvas laid down on board scene of Venice. The scene shows a typical Venetian canal and is signed Mantovani. There were several artists of this name that painted Venentian scenes at this twentieth century period. The most famous Mantovani was Luigi, whose works are highly desirable and it is possible that this might be a late work by him. The painting is mounted in the original wonderful quality swept and painted frame. The painting was obviously purchased in Italy in the flat and has been mounted on hardboard in this country. The painting has been professionally cleaned and there has been some very minor restoration to the frame. This is a dramatic and large work giving a huge impact and a wonderful faded Italian look.
