Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Pareglio & Ayres Antiques Interiors

A very finely executed Silhouette that has been reverse painted onto convex glass. The background is of ivory coloured satin.

This portrait Silhouette was painted c1795 and is of the Reverend Edward Kenwrick, late Vicar of Stratford on Avon.(Record of stipend received from the Holy Trinity Church which was Shakespeare''s church) The trade label verso reads; Executed in a superior style and fashion by Mrs Hudson from The late Secard''s, Pall Mall, London.

Mrs Hudson is well listed in Sue McKechnie''s, British Silhouette Artists and their Work, 1760-1860.

The oval frame is of an ebonised fruitwood, probably pearwood.

N.B. due to the convex glass, unfortunately the image doesn''t show completely the beauty of this little rare painting on glass.
