A really fine quality oil painting worked on board depicting what is essentially a horse portrait of a bay hunter with the hunt going on in the background. The quality of the painting is superb and typical of good sporting artists of the period. The work is signed James Allan and dated 1929 but I can find no record of the artist, which is so odd considering the quality of the work, he may just not have exhibited or sold commercially. The painting is in excellent condition and mounted in the original good quality oak frame with gilt slip.
