Superb Large Oil Painting Of Nottingham

A super oil on canvas by John Rawson Walker 1796-1873 of Nottingham city centre with the castle. A superb large and busy scene with figures going about their business, a central stream, buildings and the castle looking down over it all. The painting is absolutely typical of the work of John Rawson Walker and was purchased with another work by him I am showing which bears his attribution. Walker was born in Nottingham and trained as an artist under Thomas Barber. Walker became a landscape painter of the highest order specialising in classical scenes and scenes of Nottingham. Rawson Walker''s work forms part of the collection at Nottingham castle and in his lifetime he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute and Suffolk Street between 1817 and 1865. The painting is in excellent condtion having had a slight clean and professional restoration.
