A very unusual and quite rare oil on board portrait of a young Florence Nightingale. The portrait shows Florence in typical early Victorian dress and pose for such works. The reverse has various cuttings relating to the sitter and is inscribed in pencil: ''Florence Nightingale by Eveli''. I have made comparison with images in the National Portrait gallery of the young Florence Nightingale and it is definately her and as such is a very rare item indeed. The work is mounted in a period gilt frame which is in very good condition with some wear. C.1850.
