Superb Set of Three Ornithological Copper Plate Engravings by Buffon

Description

A rare set of 18th Century copper plate engravings by Georges Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon. Buffon was born in Burgundy in 1707 and devoted much of his life to the study of natural history. The subjects are superbly drawn and the engravings are printed on original Whatman paper. They are beautifully hand coloured in the subtle palette of the 18th Century. The set is in excellent condition and has been tastefully framed to compliment the prints and to sit in a traditional or modern setting. This outstanding set will please the historian, ornithologist and interior decorator.
