Victorian Oil Painting Village Scene by Charles Potter

A charming typical English School late Victorian oil landscape. The painting shows two children walking down a village lane past a smallholding with chickens. The painting has some naive elements which are almost impressionist and the whole has a pleasant summer feel. The painting is signed; ‘Chas Potter’ to the lower left and this is for Charles Potter a Sheffield born artist who worked in and around that area, even exhibiting locally, at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a very small hole in the trees repaired. The frame is the original and in untouched condition.
