Scottish Oil Painting 'an Ayrshire Stream'

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming oil on panel Scottish impressionist landscape entitled ‘An Ayrshire stream’ The painting is by John McNicol a well regarded Scottish painter of landscapes and master gilder, he exhibited between 1895-1940 mainly at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. The painting is one of his exhibited works and retains the exhibition label on the reverse and the date of 1935. The painting is mounted in the original frame, although the frame is earlier it was probably reused by McNicol who as a master gilder would have been able to repair old frames and this frame is most likely late Georgian. The whole is in very good condition, the painting has some craqueleure but nothing that detracts from the work.
