Large Impressive German Oil of Alpine Scene

Description

JULIUS LANGE (1817-1878) a large and wonderful quality OIL PAINTING on CANVAS of a most impressive Alpine scene.

To the foreground farm workers can be seen gathering the harvest, a church and castle behind, against a stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Alps. The treatment of the light on the mountains and the church is gorgeous, although the painting is rather dirty, as is its original gilt frame. 58ins wide; 46ins high (including frame): 147 x 117cms.

**Julius Lange was born in Germany in 1817. where his success was assured when asked by the Society of Belles Arts to paint landscapes for painting classes. He courted royalty, acting as Instructor to Archduchesse Charlotte of Belgium and later he painted many works for King Maximilian II and his son King Ludwig II
