''Wellington on the field of waterloo'' which is on view at the walker gallery Liverpool
also a copy can be seen at the national army museum London
The painting is in excellent condition ,the origianl frame is highly decorative
moulded with cannons and drums etc .There are one or two losses here,( see photos) however i
feel it would be a great shame to change the frame which suits the painting so well.
The size overall is 110cm x 79 cm high (43¼ x 31 inches approx) the painting is
89 cm x 57 cm (35 x 22.5 inches approx)
Wellesley (1769-1852) was commissioned in 1787 and saw action in many battles.
He was created Duke of Wellington on 3 May 1814.
In 1815 he commanded the Allied Army which, together with the Prussians,
finally defeated Napo
...leon at the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815.
Wellington subsequently embarked on a political career and was Prime Minister from 1826 to 1830.
