18th Century Portrait Louis Alexandre De Bourbon Versailles

Description

This is an early reverse painted portrait printed on glass of the son of Louis XIV of France, Louis de Bourbon (1678 -1737).

Louis de Bourbon was born in Versailles and became Admiral of France at the age of five. Other titles were the Comte de Toulouse (1681) and the Duc de Penthievre (1697). He was the Governor of Guyenne and Brittany and became a Marshall of France in 1696. The portrait appears to be in its original frame and is in very good order for its considerable age and has a delightful rich antique colour. The portrait measures 47 cm by 36 cm overall including the frame.
