Superb Large Oil of a Woodland Nymph

A wonderful early Victorian oil on canvas scene of a woodland nymph. The painting is typical of the period but of a very high quality, the nymph is beautifully painted and the background is allowed to almost fade around her. The painting appears unsigned with only a large S visiable at the bottom. The canvas is by George Roberson who supplied the greatest artists of the period. The large and heavy frame appears to be the original and has some restoration and has been regilt. The painting has had a small hole restored. This is a large and hugely decorative painting, typical of the period. C.1840.
