A good quality example of Victorian Still life painting. The work is absolutely typical of the genre with a group of plums, grapes and a peach nestled in a mossy bank with a fly right in the front. The painting is mounted in a wonderful quality gilt frame which is the original and a great untouched condition although the slip has been recoloured at some point. The painting is signed J.W.Dayson and dated 1899. The artist appears not to be recorded and it is possible he was purely a commercial artist or that he was a porcelain painter.
