S. J. BARNES (?): a charming and well-executed OIL PAINTING ON PANEL of a young couple fishing in a pond hidden amongst the trees, with their dog faithfully in attendance and a distant village in the background.

Signed l.r. S. J. Barnes (?) and dated 1864. * Samuel John Barnes (1842-1901) may well be the artist here. He was a Birmingham landscape painter whose favourite painting ground became the country along the River Dee and around Balmoral, Scotland
