Pair of Small Victorian Watercolour Portraits.

A really charming almost folk art example of Victorian portraiture. The paintings show man and wife seated and are in watercolour heightened with gum arabic. The quality of the painting is very good and the artist has left his label on the reverse, with the name 'Mr G W Griffin'. The works are mounted in their original frames which are quite country made but very finely done in some sort of fruitwood, perhaps apple or pear, which is of a lovely colour and patina. The frame of the man's portrait has obviously come loose at some point and been riveted like old pottery repairs, there is also a chunk out of that frame at the back but I have left it as it is part of the history of it. The pair of portraits have a huge amount of charm and are very decorative, with both in very good condition. C.1860.
