A beautifully executed watercolour and a fine example of John Ernest Aitkens work. Signed lower left.

John Ernest Aitken was born in Liverpool in 1881 and was the son of Scottish born marine artist, James Aitken. He studied at the Manchester, Liverpool and Wallasey Schools of Art whilst also being taught by his father. He moved with his father to the Isle of Man in 1911 and remained in Port St Mary until his death in 1957.

A commercially successful and prolific artist, John Ernest Aitken exhibited his works with the Royal Acadamy and Royal Institute.
