A fine oil on canvas landscape of sheep on the hills. The painting is titled on the reverse: ''In the gray of the dawning'' and the work certainly captures the hazy light of the early morning sunshine. The painting is by Hugh Berry Scott b.1854, he is a little known Lancashire artist, his works are held in local collections, where he seems to have worked purely as a commercial artist, his work has a great impressionist feel about it. The painting is signed bottom left and inscribed on the reverse with the title and the location; Lytham. The painting is mounted in a Victorian period gilt frame and the whole is in good condition. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a small hole repaired. The work of Hugh Berry Scott is highly desirable especially in his native Lancashire.
