Victorian Rope Twist Aneroid Barometer

19th century
Description

A late Victorian solid oak aneroid barometer having a circular carved twisted rope case. It has a bronzed bezel and a thick bevel edge glass. The silvered dial is beautifully hand engraved and signed and numbered by the maker Hicks of London no. 7499 and has an unusual curved thermometer.

James Hicks worked 1861-1900 at St Peters House, Clerkenwell Road, London. He was a meteorological maker to The Vatican.

Current Condition

The case is in excellent original conditon, and in barometer is in working order.

24.00cm diameter ( 9.45 inches in diameter)
