ANTIQUE #SA362238

Victorian Satirical 'new Years' Watercolour

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming, satirical pen and ink, with watercolour after Theodore Lane (1800-28). The work has the full title of New Year''s morning: the old one going out, and the new one coming in. The painting is beautifully worked and remains in amazing bright crisp colours. Theodore Lane was a contemporary of Gilray, but died tragically young so his works are rare, this watercolour is copied directly from the original print probably by a talented amateur artist, but most likely in the later part of the Victorian period. The painting has never been touched and retains the original frame and backing. C.1870
