A very rare piece of nineteenth century American folk art. The picture is done in pokerwork in that the image has been burned into a wooden panel. The artistic ability here is of the highest level and it is signed by the artist J.W.Wells, he was working in Pennsylvania in the late nineteenth century, and only a handful of his works are known, and are hugely desirable in America. The picture is titled ''Indulgence'' and dated 1886. The work even more remarkably is still in the original frame.
