Two Victorian Naive Oils in Maple Frames

Two matching naive oil on boards, dating to the Victorian period, in lovely maple frames. One a charming oil on board painting of a country cottage on a summers day. The work is done in a naive technique and shows a typical thatched cottage with a figure in the paddock to the rear and a chicken in the yard. There is an indistinct signature, the whole is in good untouched condition.

The second is a charming oil on board depicting a scene of lands end, Cornwall, with the lighthouse in the distance. The work is almost abstract in it's naivety and has a huge amount of warmth about it, and an usual subject to see. The work is signed: J.Ewen, most likely a local amateur artist. The work is also mounted in it's original bur maple frame.

The two works both date to C.1890.
